Diablo 4: Everything We Know

In the seven years since Diablo 3 was released, hardcore fans have experienced their share of ups and downs with regards to one of the most beloved game franchises of all time.  The game was beautiful, but not dark and gory the way most fans anticipated it would be.  There was no PvP, which was one of the highlights of the former Diablo 2.  Finally, there was the debacle that was the Real Money Auction House.  Needless to say, Diablo 3 tried to push some boundaries but failed pretty miserably on all fronts.

Enter Diablo 4 and what is shaping up to be possibly a complete turnaround for Blizzard and their fans.  This game is gritty, dark, gory and almost horrifying on a level quite possibly never before seen, even in the fabled Diablo 2.

Currently there are three classes offered in the playable demo:  Barbarian, Druid and Sorceress.  Clearly we can see homage being paid already to Diablo 2 as these were three of the core playable classes in that title.  Fans are already anticipating the next two classes to be announced which many hope to be something akin to the Amazon, the Necromancer, or the Assassin.

The Barbarian class is the classic mighty-weapon swinging warrior from the wastes that we have come to know and love.  He is a flurry of both sharp and blunt steel instruments of death.  His resources are similar to Diablo 3 in that he uses Health and Fury.  Check the video below to see him in action:

The Druid of Diablo 2 suffered from lack of focus and a strong theme.  Blizzard looks like they have put some serious thought into the new Druid we see in D4.  Shape-shifting into a Werebear and Werewolf depending on his attacks, the Druid has new focus and is proving a lot of fun to play.  Check out the game play video from Game Informer below:

The Sorceress is the familiar magic-user from past Diablo titles.  She chooses to defeat the hellish hordes using fire, frost and arcane spells.  Similar to past versions, her resources are Health and Mana.  Here is a video of her game-play:

New Features

Some of the new features of the game include an open world where you can run into other players along your journeys, PvP including the ability to go Hostile and attack a fellow player (another nod to Diablo 2), and a non-linear world with Day and Night cycles.

The new site is absolutely incredible and includes what I consider the best cinematic trailer ever produced for a video game.  Check it out here:
